FEMWAV make space please mix 009: Ritu VK

It's possible to know in your bones that a person would be immensely interesting to hang out with without ever having met them. Such is the case with this DJ whose multi-hyphenate introduction is just as full of big moments as her basshall mix for us. FEMWAV make space place mix 009 comes to us by way of Bangalore-based Ritu VK - a DJ, dancer, choreographer, model, promoter, and - brace yourselves - a Psychologist! Phew!

The email we received from Ritu at our behest for a mix indicated a surgical attention to detail, and the liquid flow of her mix indicates a skill honed to perfection. Call it dancehall, moombahton, or a coalescing of the two into basshall - fully of punchy, booming sounds, if there ever was a party mix, this must be it.

Here's what Ritu had to say about her mix: "This mix includes some of the tracks that I've played at my last few gigs (Steppin' Out Food Fest & Night Market, VH1 Supersonic Pre-party at Foxtrot, Koramangala & Felix Alterego, Women's Day at Koramangala Social where I opened for Fauzia [UK], and a few more). They're really fun dance numbers with a strong flavor of dancehall and I personally love grooving to them. They're perfect for parties, social gatherings or even a fun workout! Hope you like it! Cheers!"

So perhaps sequestered away at home, it is time to pick up those failed twerking attempts where you left them, away from prying eyes, or perhaps schedule a Zoom call to receive feedback if you're feeling adventurous, because Ritu has supplied the most appropriate soundtrack. Get into it here:

Asking questions about the future seems a bit perverse in current circumstance, but when asked Ritu elegantly responded: "Given the state of the world right now, it's hard to say what the next few months are going to look like for artists, however, I will be working on putting out more mixes, trying my hand at music production and coming up with plans for future shows/events, which will also include working with other female artists."

If you are a femme/NB DJ or producer and would like to contribute a make space please mix, write to us femwav@gmail.com. We can't wait to hear from you!
