April we launched a new self-empowerment model as an audio-video series titled ‘Narratives’. The effort and content is localised, and stands to showcase and amplify the voices of female talent based in India. Episode one featured six female participants at Synthfarm, talking about their background, music production, synthesis and sound. We are thrilled to present the second episode, which is dedicated to emerging female composers, singers and DJs based in Bangalore. A fresh and vibrant group of artists, speaking about artistic desires, composition, their take on genres and how they express themselves via music. This episode has been curated, recorded and edited by Ritu VK, FEMWAV's newest member based in Bangalore.
#2 highlights diversity of talent and artist perceptions in the making. The episode encapsulates eight female narratives within urban Bangalore. What’s most refreshing and surprising is the professional backgrounds of the DJs and artists. Bio-tech, law, ecology, education, analytics, dance and fitness are surely a diverse set of professions, yet the artists find common ground, via playing music, exploration of genres and DJing. We notice a transition and development in these artists, some of who have left standard career paths, taking up music and performance. Giving emphasis to genres and the crossover points within electronic music, made of techno, house, psy, jazz, hip-hop, afro-beat, baila-funk, and even pop and bollywood. “This was my first project with Femwav, and the idea behind the bangalore narratives was to showcase a few strong female artists from the city - was really inspiring to hear what each of them had to say. This is one of the things which makes Bangalore an amazing hub for arts and culture…” says Ritu VK.
