DIVHERSIFY launched by FEMWAV on International Women's Day 2022, is a convergence of female talent exploring new pathways while empowering their career and music. Watch the first virtual convergence (6th March) . Episode two, 8th March was a convergence in reality, featuring five artists based in Pune, from diverse backgrounds, coming together at Daily All Day Pune. A crossroad for progressive spaces and emerging female talent. FEMWAV is grateful for the support, of the venue, the artists and the audience - together addressing gender equality, women's empowerment and safety at a local level. Making a local impact, as first steps towards achieving safe and equal spaces.
The event featured short performances by Joanna Sam, Darshana Suresh, Sera Chitgopar and Kashmira Khot. An interactive presentation by Ananya Roy about Gig Safety, followed by short interviews of the artists - talking about their background and how they wish to "divhersify". At FEMWAV we believe that advancing gender equality has to manifest at many forms. At our favorite venues, at concerts and festivals, the marketplace and the surrounding community.
It's amazing to hear a young artist like Joanna Sam expressing her gut sentiments as "you can do it ...with discipline and dedication, you can pursue your passion... you don't have to live for some day, that I'll be an artist... " Singer songwriter Kashmir Khot, believes that a lot more can be achieved, first within Pune, to amplify female presence and artists : "frankly I have not seen many female musicians in this scene... which means that there's a lot of scope..."
"The event and the artists coming together created immense motivation... to plan out DIVHERSIFY as a series of events, in reality and online throughout this year. We are already reaching out to more female artists, venues, organizations and professionals to engage and collaborate. It has to resonate locally first..." states Ananya Roy heading this project. As emerging policy at FEMWAV, we believe that investing in female talent and creating support at a local level is crucial. The events, plans and actions, which impact decision-making and commit to gender equality, and may even outperform the competitors and given inequality.
